In plain English: QuoteMyRenovation connects London homeowners with vetted renovation builders. To do that, we collect some information from you — this policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what rights you have over your data. We are required to provide this information under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
QuoteMyRenovation operates the website at www.quotemyrenovation.co.uk — a marketplace that connects London homeowners with vetted renovation and building specialists. We are the data controller for the personal data we process under this policy.
You can contact us about any data protection matter using the details in Section 13.
QuoteMyRenovation is not currently registered with the ICO as a data controller. If you have concerns about how we handle your data, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office directly — see Section 13.
We collect different information depending on whether you are a homeowner requesting quotes or a builder applying to join our network.
We do not collect payment information — we do not charge homeowners, and builder subscriptions or payments (when introduced) will be handled by a third-party payment processor, not stored by us.
| Purpose | Data used | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|

| Sharing your project brief with matched builders so they can quote | Name, phone, email, project details | Homeowners |

| Communicating with you about your request or application | Name, email, phone | Both |
| Improving the platform and understanding how it is used | Anonymised usage data, page analytics | All visitors |

| Complying with legal obligations | As required by applicable law | Both |
We will not use your data for purposes incompatible with those listed above without telling you first.
Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for every processing activity. We rely on the following:
When you submit a quote request as a homeowner, we share your project brief — including your name, phone number, email address, postcode, project type, and budget — with the builders we select to quote for your project. This is the core service. By submitting a quote request, you are authorising this sharing. You will typically receive contact from up to three builders.
Builders on our network are vetted before being accepted and are required to treat your data in accordance with UK data protection law. However, once your data is in a builder’s hands, their own data practices apply. We recommend reviewing a builder’s privacy policy before sharing additional information directly with them.
We use a small number of third-party tools that process data on our behalf:
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We may disclose personal data if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of QuoteMyRenovation, our users, or the public.
| Data | Retention period | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Homeowner quote request data | 24 months from submission | To support quote matching, follow-up, and dispute resolution |
| Builder application data (accepted) | Duration of relationship + 12 months | To manage the builder relationship and for auditing |
| Builder application data (rejected) | 6 months from decision | To manage re-application requests and record decisions |
| Website analytics data | 26 months (Google Analytics default) | To understand usage trends and improve the platform |
| Email correspondence | 3 years | Business records and dispute resolution |
After the relevant retention period, data is securely deleted or permanently anonymised.
QuoteMyRenovation uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — to make the website function correctly and to understand how it is used.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or delete existing ones. Refusing analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use QuoteMyRenovation.
We do not use advertising cookies, targeting cookies, or retargeting pixels.
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights regarding your personal data. These rights are not absolute — they apply in most cases but may be limited by law.
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (a Subject Access Request).
Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data we hold about you.
Ask us to delete your personal data where there is no compelling reason for us to keep it.
Ask us to pause processing of your data in certain circumstances while a dispute is resolved.
Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format where processing is based on consent or contract.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling. We must stop unless we can demonstrate compelling grounds.
Where we rely on consent (e.g. for marketing emails), you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.
Lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@quotemyrenovation.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month. We will not charge a fee for standard requests. We may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
We primarily store and process your data within the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).
Some of our third-party service providers (including Google Analytics) may process data on servers located outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place — such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) — to protect your data to the same standard as required under UK GDPR.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, destruction, or disclosure. These include:
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of a security vulnerability, please contact us at privacy@quotemyrenovation.co.uk.
In the event of a data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours and, where required, notify affected individuals without undue delay.
QuoteMyRenovation is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us at privacy@quotemyrenovation.co.uk and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or data practices. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users by email or a notice on the website.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of QuoteMyRenovation after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
